Chers confrères,
Peut- être avez- vous appris que la société Webster, dans la 3ème édition
de son fameux dictionnaire, a donné de l'arab une définition haineuse
et inacceptable de tous points de vue. Voici ce qui y est dit:

As an Arab, I was outraged by the atrocious hostility and blatant enmity you breed on the pages of your Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary against the Arab people.
I, together with a big number of WATA members, sent you a letter asking you to publicly repudiate the synonyms listed in your dictionary under the word "arab" and apologize to the Arab people for this unjustified provocation of hatred, but you ignored our letter and did not have the guts to reply.
As a result, I cancelled my membership with you (account number 58591).I will also call on all my students, colleagues, teachers of English, translators, writers, poets, linguists and academics to stop any sort of dealing with your company and your publications.
Our campaign against your racist policy will not cool down and will continue until our demands, stated above, are met. It will grow larger and stronger and it will include all the Arab people. It will seek to reach the International Anti-Discrimination Committees and Civil Rights Organizations and call on them to condemn your flagrant racist policy against the Arab nation.
