Teaching and Practising Translation in the Digital Age
A Symposium to be held at
The King Fahd School of Translation
April 23-24 2004
To all practising translators
Your suggestions and participation are welcome
Digitalization has made all sorts of new tools possibilities available to
the practising translator and to the teacher of translation. However, are
we making the most of these possibilities? This conference is an
opportunity to share with each other how we are currently using the
computer, and to think laterally about how we may use it even more
effectively.
The conference will last for two days and is open to all. We are proposing
to hold it over the period Friday and Saturday April 23-24 so as to allow as
many practising translators as possible to attend. It is geared primarily
to the needs of translators and translator trainers living in Morocco.
There will be room for some general and more theoretical presentations on
the morning of the first day, but otherwise the emphasis will be on
workshops, and sharing of practical experience. The organizing committee is
hoping that professional translators will attend and feel free to share
their experience and concerns.
Three topic areas, all intended to draw on the experience of participants,
are currently being proposed: using software programmes; solving common
problems in the translation classroom or office; programmes that need to be
developed to facilitate the translation process.
Here are three lists of particular software programmes or points that we are
considering dealing with under the three topic areas. Please let the
organizing committee know those that are of particular interest to you,
and/or inform them of any other ones that you feel would be interesting. If
you have experience that you would like to share, please also let them know.
