Dear Mr. Ahmed:
Welcome on board and welcome to Morocco .
Since you were far-off somewhere outside the country, I would like to inform you that things have changed considerably since you were last here (in Morocco that is).
We, translators, are faced with a foxy kind of "law". It is a deformed, I mean “reformed” version of the old “law” which requires the
candidate:
1. to be a holder of a translation diploma (something we have nothing against, except from generalizing this requirement to cover all people working in the field. This means, cleaning the "translator association", which set that “law”, from some intruders who do not have a translation diploma themselves and who are preaching one thing while doing something else)
2. to successfully pass written and oral examinations
3. to pass one-year training at a translation agency (non-paid of course)
4. to crown it all, these people set some sort of quota according to which successful candidates are assigned to duty in geographical areas that are
determined by the ATAJ, the translator association I mentioned before. Let me give you a example, if you had in mind to start your business as a certifies translator in Casablanca and become a certified translator in either English or French, this will not be possible for you because these people close all doors for you and for all new graduates for no other reason but to get a corner on all translation markets in Morocco.
IAnyway, as Ms. Wafaa has just told you, contact these people and ask for more information, which I believe will not make the picture any brighter. And please keep us updated with the so-called “reforms”.
Best,
Ms. Hamidatoune

Objet : [traducteurs_] AssermentationSalam Everybody
I was wondering whether somebody would care to post
the eventual announcement of the "assermentation"
exam, if any. Or will I have to check on that using my
own personal means? As some of the Casablanca-based
senior translators know, I have just moved back to
Morocco after a long sojourn abroad and I am not quite
familiar with the way things are conducted. I would be
grateful if somebody could provide me with tips on the
subject.
Ahmed Naoual
